The Big Project - Meet Weds 19th Nov. 8pm White Lion upstairs

Ensure our prosperity is in our own hands. We introduce a project to guarantee that we will have what we need to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Importing a scheme from the Netherlands we will have an internet service that is as reliable and as uncomplicated as turning on a tap or switching on a light. We will not get this if we wait for it to be given to us.

sarah palin lookalikes ligging into the Trades on 21st Nov problem

the palinometer - how it might work

don't click me cos I don't get any bigger, sorry

For reasons that were never fully explained to me, it is apparently my job, whenever The Electric Brains are playing at The Trades Club (as we are, on 21st nov), to send ‘copy’ for the Trades Club monthly brochure. So stepford wife-like, I duly sent the copy. I’d had a long day, I was tired, it seemed funny at the time etc, but anyway I included the sentence “sarah palin lookalikes get in free, seriously”. Subsequently it was pointed out to me, by a band member in spinal tap-style outrage, that this sentence is actually an easy mark, a licence, a call to arms no less, to the trades club ligging community to get in free. The problem is he’s not wrong. What to do. I’ve come up with a possible strategy and I’d be grateful for your feedback.

frickin trains

as you may know, they’re doing repairs to bradford station and in the meantime trains don’t stop there. they’ve produced all these temporary timetables. I’ve tried really hard to understand them, ie how to get a train straight to Leeds without having to get a bus, but finally I have to admit defeat. Can someone just tell me which train to get in the mornings to get to Leeds for 9 ish?

English Dude Hits Latin American Extravaganza

Really enjoying Madrid so far. Bit like Hebden but with more sun, loads of Spanish people, efficient metro system, tapas, cerveza, sangria(yes I´ve drunk some), little greenery but an amazing city park called `El Retiro´, warmth, erm…….. Teaching job going well. Part of my day consists of teaching people in the main Bank of Spain building, have to go through scanners and metal detectors before you can enter the labyrynthine building. Also teaching kids of 9 and 15, surprisingly cute for sprogs of this age.
The other day I went to a carnival to celebrate El Dia de la Hispanidad(Spanish speaking world). Basically there´s thousands of immigrants from Latin America in Madrid and this was a street party through the centre of the city to celebrate this.
Choice fotos from the event on the way.
Love and peace Hebdenites.

Well done Tod

Todmorden renegades have got this scheme going whereby dreary council plantings of big fluffy petunias and municipal winter violas are replaced by plants that grow things you eat. The council seems to be working on auto pilot. Ruminating over another predictable autumn planting. In the meantime use these planters to grow herbs and salad vegetables and other plants of true usefulness. The municipal planters, on this street corner and that, they cost you nothing. In their formerly barren soil, the renegade gardeners raise radishes, lettuces, thyme, oregano, chives. The crop is certainly not improved by belching internal combustion engines layering their carbon particulates over their leaves, so close are they to the aorta of traffic to and from Manchester. Mere feet in fact, but the great stuff the renegade gardeners of Todmorden do is rightly recognised here…

(It’s the first episode on this link. Deep into the episode. We must laugh at how Hugh Furnishingly Hughingshall pronounces Todmorden)
